Mel Power takes some time to chat about the opportunities and her vision for the myprosperity Bookkeeping Program.

What do you love about the bookkeeping industry?

Accounting has been a major part of my 25 years in the workforce. Over the last 4 -5 years I have spent this time really championing the value that Bookkeepers bring to business owners and the value they contribute to other advisers in the financial sector. It’s really all about how a solid and strong financial team can work together to transform the lives of individuals. The work that we do really makes a difference.

Why did you join the team?

I am super excited to have joined the team at myprosperity in a consulting role that is solely focused on really ramping up the existing Bookkeeper Program. I am passionate about ensuring that our industry has access to this incredible opportunity to take the value that we provide to business owners that one step further and include the personal finance overview.  After a four year tenure with Xero as their AU Head of Bookkeeping and Global Head of Partner Community, I really wanted to get back to my passion of a grassroots startup. The opportunity to work with Chris Ridd again as part of the team at myprosperity was something that I felt was too good to pass up.

What’s the opportunity?

I believe the opportunity is not only for bookkeepers but for financial advisers and accountants to use technology for personal wealth management. This is absolutely the next part of an entire industry shift. The value add for bookkeepers to be able to do a piece of this work, develops not only stronger client relationships, but also stronger industry based relationships with other advisers. This ultimately creates trust, which is the foundation and basis of any business to business referrals.

What will the program look like?

We all like to do business with people we like. I see the myprosperity Bookkeeper opportunity (which is currently sitting as a dedicated Bookkeepers program) as one that can be built on to include not only bookkeepers. People who have just completed their study, mortgage and finance brokers, as well as others that are interested in working in the space of helping clients and advisors, all have the ability to have that helicopter overview of their own personal finances.   This will consist of a two-tiered Certified Consultant-like offering that will help to deliver two major things. The first being, the onboarding of clients on to the myprosperity platform and the second, the introduction of expanding the conversations BAS Agents and other brokers may already be having with clients. This will help to cover off where their client’s money is going and build in natural referral opportunities to advisors that work closely with the consultant to deliver formal personal wealth advice.   It’s all about the win: win – for the consultant – for the advisor – and most of all the client.

When can we expect to see a release of this program?

I am currently working with the team at myprosperity and also our existing Bookkeeping Partners on developing this out and I expect to see some communications released around this later in the year.

In the meantime – if you are interested in knowing more, then please pop along to our website and register your interest so we can keep you in the loop.
